Please identify this Mahler 9.
« on: November 08, 2011, 04:33:56 PM »
It is on YouTube, under Horenstein, where someone has noted that there are six M9s under Jascha baby.

From the fact that Lebrecht mentioned it in his latest Mahler tome, perhaps it's at the Proms in '64 with the LSO.

I was in tears much of the way.

Ivor,

It's Horenstein/LSO released on BBC Legends:

It is a great performance despite the timpani mistake in III.

Listening to the first movt. again (in a long time) it came across as perfectly realized as I could ever hope.

Thanks John.

There's a bit of dodgy brass too. Jascha even seemed to be unlucky about faulty playing and yet and yet.

I [was] conducted while listening and was in tears much of the time.

Yes, indeed. This is a surprisingly outstanding performance. I can't recall it was this great! :o

Very emotional and weighty, but also musically solid.

I am happy to have visited it again.

Thanks for the post.

I think that beautifully encapsulates much of Horenstein's art. So thanks for that and glad you remet it.

Thanks again for the info.
