Karajan DG 1970s boxset
« on: July 01, 2013, 11:06:02 PM »
Just picked up the 82CD Karajan 1970s recordings box - actually the Korean version.  Many of the recordings have been specifically remastered for this release - including the Das Lied von der  Erde, which I believe is the first remastering since its old Galleria incarnation.  I will give it a listen tonight.

I am very impressed with the sound on other remastered CDs in the set, namely the Bruckner and Beethoven symphonies.  The M5 also sounded great, though not heard that previously (or the studio M9, also in the box).

'Not too loud on the banjoes here, Herbert...' (with apologies to Eric Morecambe):

Beautiful set! I love the li'l mini album covers. It's giving me a case of "set envy".

Is the Europe version that will be released this month digitally remastered??

Is so, it's worth getting ... for instance the Beethoven and Bruckner symphonies have never been remastered and so far they have sounded pretty constricted. Ditto the DLVDE.

Well, this is not yet known - the blue box is the Korean, the yellow the 'international'.  The latter may well have the same remasterings, in which case get that as it is cheaper.  Amazon sell both in the UK and US.
