Horenstein's _first_ recorded Third
« on: February 13, 2014, 08:36:52 PM »
newly issued on Archipel CD 0557.  "Never Before Released" trumpeted on the cover.  True?  It's been on Youtube a while . . . (and are they the same recordings?)
(Watts, Highgate School Choir, Orpington Junior Singers, LSO & Chorus, Nov 16, 1961)

The set also includes JH and Arrau in Brahms 1 (Montreux, 1962).

David,

This recording has circulated in the audio "underground" for quite some time; I've had a copy for several years. My vague recollection is that the source is a set of BBC transcription discs. The Archipel CD may be its first commercial release, ergo the claim on the cover. FWIW, Archipel has a reputation for releasing shoddy, over-filtered transfers. Caveat emptor.

Welcome to the Mahler Board.
