Mahler's doubtful quotes
« on: October 16, 2015, 01:55:34 PM »
Hello everybody, and let me express my pleasure for having joined this community. I love Mahler, especially all of the Lieder - excruciating. I am writing an article on Vienna's literature and I really need to know if any of you recognize these (supposedly) Mahler's quotes as his:

In Österreich wird jeder das, was er nicht ist. -> In Austria, everybody becomes what he is not.

(German missing) -> In the theater pieces that we love and amire the most, the end of the drama often takes place behind the curtains.

They are very relevant to some issues in contemporary literature. But I'm afraid I can't find any sources to prove me that they were not simply made up from the "Zitate.de" site manager or similar :P
Thank you very much! And sorry for my mistakes.

I don't know the answer - Mahler said lots of  contradictory things - but I love the first one: " In Austria, everybody becomes what he is not"
