Bernstein/NYPO/Sony M9th Japanese SACD - revisit
« on: April 19, 2008, 06:03:27 PM »
I've only heard a CD-R copy of the original SACD but I am so impressed with the improved sound quality that I've decided to order it from Japan. I also heard the SACD versions of Lenny's M3, M6, and M1 but must say the M9th has the most successful transfer; never have the NYPO strings and brass sounded so crystal clear and rich. Believe me, I have 4 reincarnations (original CBS, Royal Edition, Lenny Century and this one) of this recording and am saying there is absolutely no comparison. It sounds like a wholly different and better performance thanks to the brilliant remastering. The New York strings, especially, are juicy and the harps have startling presence in this version. Now this M9th goes to the top tier of my list, on par with Lenny's RCO on DG, Lenny's BSO from Tanglewood, Ozawa's BSO, and Levine's Philadelphia recordings.

I have the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 9th on the new SACDs and they all sound so much better than the CD box set.

You can get them from Amazon as well.  Third party vendors thru Amazon as well.  I've gotten a couple from them.  Not sure about the difference in price.
