John,
I would recommend hearing this one, especially since there is a Flac version available. I heard parts of the MP3 version--part of I, II, III and the entire of IV. It's a great close-up recording with only minimal dynamic compression on the loudest sounds, mainly the loudest percussion passages. The Finale was wonderful, although at times he did take things a bit faster e.g. the passage where the horn melody appears for the second time. I had it going in the background and was not paying full attention but Abbado's ending is special--I don't think I've heard any conductor pause so long between phrases there at the end.
I really hope they release this one on audio CD...I would enthusiastically buy it!
