The US distributor carries interesting SACDs other than the Ring cycle:

No wonder it was so expensive - only 1,000 copies made!  Expect something produced in extremely limited quantity to be horrendously expensive!  I'm perfectly happy with my Magtec/Stereotape reel set of the Solti Ring that I paid just over $100 for in the late 1970's.

This was kind of like the 1955 Keilberth Bayreuth Ring that was issued by Testament on LP - that cost $750!  Though I wanted this particular recording, I waited until the price came down considerably on the CD version at Amazon.com and paid about $160 for it.

Well, that takes the pressure off, doesn't it!

Seriously, I'll bet they reissue it fairly soon—they were just testing the water with an initial 1,000. The only limit on most of today's "limited editions" is the number of units that can be sold.

No matter how good the remastering may be, asking for $800 is simply (excuse me), outrageous.

Perhaps they will offer it at a lower price when they're reissued.

Let's ask them to remaster Haitink and Kubelik Mahler cycles next time.
