M10, Shui, Singapore SO - Any Guinea Pigs Yet?
« on: October 11, 2010, 03:12:26 PM »
Has anyone seen/heard this one yet on either DVD or Blu-Ray?  I plan to place an order with Presto Classical (UK) this week and I am fighting about whether or not to include it in my order.  I can always be the guinea pig if not, but I have real reservations about the orchestra and conductor.

There seems to exist an SACD recording of "Das Lied" in Cantonese by the same orchestra and conductor. The 3 reviewers on Amazon.com were't directly extatic about the performance, so if you go and buy this M10 let us know what you think.

One of the reviewers wrote: "IMHO only two or three Asia-based orchestras could meet the technical demands of any Mahler score. The Singapore Symphony, unfortunately, is not one of them. It just cannot produce the Mahlerian sound that is in the score."
