way O.T.: Seatte Seahawks

Incredible. The Seahawks are hosting a playoff game with a 7-9 record! They looked great today, which just goes to show that you can never count out ANY team coached by Pete Carroll. Whitehurst looked like a throw-back to the great battling quarterbacks of the '60s and '70s, and not just another automaton like Tom Brady, Drew Brees, or Payton Manning. The Seahawks will be big underdogs to the Saints. But with all the noise Seattle fans can make, you never know.

Also, the 49ers got rid of Mike Singletary, and today they completely destoryed the Cardinals. Alex Smith looked like THE BEST QB in all the NFL. Weird!

Yeah, I don't know if Whitehurst is really that good, or if the Rams just made him look that good. I can tolerate a Rams loss, but I found all the Rams dropped passes and missed tackles so hard to take. And watching the Seahawks convert key first-downs was painful, too.  It's too bad, because the Rams have improved quite a bit this year, but not enough. Another year of additions will bring them some much needed talent. Hopefully, it'll be some playmakers who don't drop easy passes. 

Seattle is supposed to have a huge advantage because of the way their stadium holds the noise. I suspect Mahler would have said, "At last! A true fortissimo!"

It hurts my head to try to imagine Mahler being a football fan.     It's bad enough to know that Toscanini was a fan of professional wrestling (which is a true fact, BTW).

Ha!  I thought for certain that John started this thread (being that he's from Seattle), so I had to do a double-take on your comment. 

No, the Seahawks have now made it to the first round of the playoffs.  They would need to win three playoffs games to reach the Super Bowl.  I am cheering for them in their next game against the Saints, though, because I would much rather my Chicago Bears play the Seahawks in the next round instead of (possibly) the Saints.  Actually, the Seahawks beat the Bears earlier this year, but I'd still prefer to see them again.

Don't know much about football rules but I enjoyed every bit of the game today.

It was thrilling, exciting, and edge-of-your-seat tense from start to finish.

The touchdown by Lynch(?) was one of the most amazing action sequences of any sports games I could recall. Am I right?

It certainly was an amazing run, id like to see the Seahawks keep up that form away from home next, if they can they've got a chance whoever they play.  Similar game on now Chiefs are given no chance to win against the Ravens.  Might be the season of the underdog.

Seeing that Herr Mahler was an avid hiker and outdoors man before his heart condition forced him—to his great misery—to curtail any extraneous activities, a game of men butting heads would probably have appealed greatly to him. Also, considering all the head-butting he endured with the Vienna and New York music power brokers of his day—whose descendants now scrape their tongues at the feet of his legacy—watching a good football game would have been for him a healthy way of releasing pent-up frustration.

My dear Saints got their butts whipped fairly and squarely. Seattle played their best game of the year on both sides of the ball and deserved the win. All games, except one, have been very competitive and fun to watch. The Steelers-Ravens and Jets-Patriots games next weekend promise a lot of excitement. Personally, I watch football with the sound off and with, most often, the “Ring” cranked up on the sound system. An equally satisfying, but much different effect, can be achieved by substituting Wagner with the Bach Brandenburghs (sic).
