Am I wrong, or are these Bernstein's most radical timings yet? Look at the contrast between the Rondo-Burlesque and the adagio finale! Can't imagine that the playing - and maybe even the sound - could compete with that famous Bernstein/BSO M9.

This performance has no common ground with Tanglewood (which was the same year as BPO and timings are probably much closer). If anything, timings and mood are much closer to the RCO (few months earlier, in June of the same year) but the performance here is even more extreme. The playing is actually superb, and you forgive some brass fuck-ups in the second movement because the overall effect is so draining. The sound is very good. It's a fantastic live recording.

I got my copy from Helicon Classics, but it's not out yet. It's distributed through Harmonia Mundi and should be available in a few weeks :)

That's the first time I've seen a 30+ minute timing for the Finale!  Note to self: Keep an eye out for this one, too.

The timing may be inflated by applause, given that this is a live recording. The longest one I know of is Levine/Philadelphia at 29:50.

Did you order it directly from Helicon?

No.....I received a complimentary copy :) I'm not sure you can order cd's directly from Helicon, but I believe it should be available in stores and online soon.
