Thanks to John H for resurrecting this thread.  I didn't even have to go back several pages to discover it either, it goes a long way towards my getting my first star.   ;D

I second Ivor's original suggestion here--that new members feel free to bring up old topics.  The multi-starred may occasionally get a tad bored at hearing a previous topic brought up again, BUT they owe it to all of us relative newbies to share their experience and knowledge with us.

BTW, adulatory as that previous remark may sound to some, it is meant with all sincerity.  I have already learned a tremendous amount by reading earlier postings and the reactions to them.

So, onward new members and the multi-starred!  We all continue to learn together.

As the board acquires more members, here's a thought for newbies.

[There are two of these around]

Sounds good to me!
Even when new members bring up topics that have been discussed before, the very act of "revisiting" an old topic often allows for new perspectives--either from the way a question is phrased, or just because by coming back to a topic, our thoughts have mellowed or fermented--and this allows for new ideas.
So, NEWBIES!--bring up any topic of interest to you!

Since I'm No. 180 ... ;)
When time allows, I will indeed look through the old(er) topics. I've been lurking on the board for some time now, and I remember that I had a thought or two to drop (with a hammer or two) on the board ... ;)

Wow - Mahlerian in-jokes already. I'm a three man personally.

perhaps someone could do something about the underabundance of threads not about recordings.

How about Mahler information that appears in periodicals? Besides the usual musical review magazines, the Chicago Mahlerites and the Gustav Mahler Society of New York publish their own journals from time to time. Surely there must be some Bored members who belong to these or other such organizations--who could share with us items of interest that appear there.
