Mahler 2 Arranged for Soloists, Mixed Choir, and Small Orchestra
« on: February 15, 2013, 04:51:41 AM »
Universal Edition have just published a version of Mahler's Symphony No. 2 for soloists, mixed choir, and small orchestra. The arrangement was done by Gilbert Kaplan and Rob Mathes, and Mr. Kaplan will conduct the world première on 17 February 2013 in the Vienna Konzerthaus with the Wiener Kammerorchester; the Wiener Singakademie; Marlis Petersen, soprano; and Janina Baechle, mezzo-soprano. Hmmmmm, I'm wondering if this means that Mr. Kaplan might be having problems staying booked with the Mahler's own version of M2 (?). I'd like to see him spend his energies pushing for more performances of his Urtext edition.
