Any thoughts? The start of the last two movements sound promising on the samples given.

I haven't heard the whole recording yet, but the samples do sound promising. The start to the 4th movement is very well done - superb string tone sustained, wonderful rubato.

I need another M9 recording as much as I need a hole in the head (especially since I conducted this work last fall), but this recording seems intriguing.

Barry

Thanks for the posting.

I haven't had a chance to order the set yet ... but I am sure I will get to it soon.

Meanwhile, the recent live Runnicles/BBC Scottish S.O. M9th was OUTSTANDING!!

Regards,

John

With the university orchestra at Oklahoma City University. I'm the music director/conductor of the group. It was a big project piece for them - and very fun to put together. Highly emotional for everyone!

Markus Stenz's last installment in his Mahler cycle, Symphony No. 9 & No. 10 Adagio gets a five star rating from a Japanese reviewer:

The reviewer writes that it is the 55th recording of the work in his collection and yet finds enough merits to keep it. In the crowded field of Mahler recordings it 's really hard for a new comer to add something new, especially in Mahler Ninth, but Stenz and his orchestra have just done that. Stenz's tempi are on a fast side but his delineation of Mahler's myriad, web-like polyphonic lines is something to treasure

My fingers are crossed.
