Symphony No. 3/Haitink/Concertgebouw/Blu-Ray Video
« on: September 02, 2015, 11:09:45 PM »
I just received this, ordered from Amazon (under $20, landed) with no research on my part.  Surprise, it was recorded (live) in 1983, which was the same year of Haitink's "Christmas Concerts".  The Philips CD sets are going for $100 when available on Ebay, and a pair now on Amazon for $300+.  The Blu-Ray is Arthaus-Musik cat #109120, described by Amazon as Region 2.  But in fact it is Region "0", worldwide.  Universal/Philips has an elusive DVD set of the entire series (#6 and 8 excluded) on 4 discs, Philips 00289 4428713, but these are European Region only (one would need a region-free player, Oppo DV-981 with firmware tweeked to "all" regions will work).  Would be nice if the whole series becomes available.

Yep. I think I'm going to pick up the Mahler 3 from this series. I have the Paavo Jarvi M3/M4 which is really very good. But you can never have too many great M3 recordings.   :)
