This is great news, as Fischer's lighter and 'sunnier' take on Mahler will be a better fit for M7 than it has been for M5, M6 or M9.  He's like a  less vulgar and less deaf Solti. His M1, M2 and M4 are about as good as they get. He'll someday do a very good M3 as well (I think).

I haven't heard M9 yet. I really did enjoy M6 however. Completist that I am I know I'll eventually get them all. In the video he said he doesn't do M8 - sure hope that changes.

I don't want to exaggerate, as it was a fine albeit relatively quick M6 recording. There are far, FAR worse.

Indeed there are. But I can forgive a lot of Fischer's faults (yeah, like I know...) just to hear that phenomenal SACD sound that Channel has captured. The sonic impact is tremendous and that goes a long way in Mahler. Zinman had SACD, but usually didn't sound any better than a regular redbook cd.

This was recorded at the end of September. Channel Classics even allowed fans to come to the recording sessions, I mean, if you were in Budapest. The recording should be out this fall.

Jared and company take great care through the entire process of the recording and mastering. For me, only SoundMirror in Boston equals the sound quality of Channel Classics.

[Fischer's] M1, M2 and M4 are about as good as they get. He'll someday do a very good M3 as well (I think).

He just did M3 last weekend in Berlin. It's up on the Berlin Digital Concert Hall for those who subscribe. It'll probably be on YouTube in lower resolution before long.

The BPO must do M3 every other week (I'm not complaining). "Digital Concert Hall" already has M3 performances with Rattle, Mehta and Dudamel. The Rattle allegedly got released on a dvd, but it's never made it over here.

I found this performance to be very well played, as one might expect, but musically quite routine and ordinary—no magic here, I'm afraid. I hope his much-anticipated Dallas Budapest recording is more satisfying.
