This the best recording of a Bruckner symphony I've heard in a long time. It's in the 1888/89 version (Nowak) if that matters to anyone. You can hear the whole thing at Spotify.

I see that this recording received one of David Hurwitz's coveted "CD from Hell" reviews. Here's a bit of the text, now up on the Classics Today website ahead of the paywall:

"This is an atrocious performance of Bruckner's Third Symphony: sluggish, heavy-handed, superficial, and larded with the kind of bloated, false grandeur that makes a mockery of the composer's intentions."

Chacun à son goût.
"We cannot see how any of his music can long survive him."
Henry Krehbiel, New York Tribune obituary of Gustav Mahler

Search me. I listened to it on Spotify and thought it sounded really good. Maybe I'm just no good outside of Mahler   ;)

Later on:

Here are three contrasting consumer reviews at Amazon:

I saw Nelsons step in as a replacement to conduct the Vienna Phil. in Bruckner 6 and it was terrific. And no, he was not following them. He was leading.
