De Waart Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra M3
« on: January 08, 2018, 08:48:35 PM »
I was aware that De Waart's last concert as music director from last spring had Mahler's Third on the program. Lo and behold, it was broadcast last week...and I enjoyed what I heard over the radio enough to seek the rest online. Perhaps you'll like it, too. I probably shouldn't ask, but does anyone recommend a good app to capture performances online? I may like this one enough to try it. Or maybe it'll end up being available for purchase, like his Mahler 2 with the MSO.

I attended one of these concerts, and it was a fine performance indeed. Orchestral execution was at the top level, though some of us will quibble at the shy tamtam at the end of the first movement.

At the concert, the MSO was giving away CDs of all the Brahms symphonies, also excellent performances in very good SQ.

For capturing audio, I use Audacity. I'm usually running Linux, but Windows and Mac OS (10.6 and later) flavors are available too. SQ will often take a hit through online sources, and the MSO offers good-sounding MP3s of M6 and M7 (Delfs) for $4.99 each.

It's difficult to beat these at THOSE prices, right! They get great brass players due to the proximity to Chicago and various type flight universities.
