Y. Sado/Vienna Tonkunstler Orch. M3 coming
« on: December 25, 2022, 08:58:59 PM »
Hi. I don't know if any of you have sampled these Yutaka Sado/Tonkunstler Orch. Mahler recordings, but the sound on them is really excellent. M5 was recorded at the new Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. The ending to the finale is incredibly exciting too (and clear!). The M2 was recorded in the Vienna Musikverein, and their normally 'wheezy' sounding organ has never sounded better. Now comes this M3, also recorded in the Musikverein (which is always generous to Mahler's 3rd symphony). Of course, it's difficult to tell much of anything from these excerpts. When it finally appears at Spotify, I'll buy a copy if I think it'll really be adding something to my extensive collection.

Indeed, the sound is incredible good!

I like it that they take Finale (VI) 25'44", longer than what is normally taken today.

John, you should hear their recording of Messiaen's "Turangalila" Symphony. The sound quality is excellent and you can hear everything. I own a copy of their Beethoven #9 in the Mahler retuschen, conducted by Kristian Jarvi.

.    .    .  I impulsively went ahead and ordered a copy of the Sado/Tonkunstler M3 directly from the Tonkunstler's website. With shipping, it came out to less than $27 - not too bad! Only time will tell if I made a hasty move. What the hell - it's Christmas, right?    .    .    .  It's still a lot cheaper than flying to Vienna to go hear it.
