My goodness, what sound quality! I also think this might be the best I've ever heard the opening trumpet fanfare. I like how his/her initial low note sounds 'dark' and 'round', and not 'blatty' or nasty like on typical park band trumpet. The sound quality is so good that I might possibly get this. It's an April 3 release.

Here's a broadcast tape of a live performance of the first three movements:

That is an excellent opening. Tom Hooten, principal in the LA Symphony, is the player. His wonderful articulation is what gives that nice round sound. Blame blatty openings on conductors. The players have very little say on how this goes opening goes down. Definitely picking this one up.

Hey thanks for your insightful info. on the opening fanfare. I thought it might have Tom Hooten, as I know he's played out there before. Are there a bunch of L.A. Phil. people in that orchestra, or are they really from all over?   .   .   .  Since you're picking this up, Chris, I think I'll score myself a copy as well.

Musicians are from all over. Lots, and lots of great players on that roster.

Thanks man. So it's no accident that the samples sound really good.
