Berg's 3 Pieces with Gatti/RCO Live on SACD
« on: January 19, 2009, 10:00:22 PM »

For those who love Berg's Drei Orchesterstrucke this recording may be one of the best, right up there with Geilen's, Abbado's and Karajan's accounts.  I downloaded this off iTunes, and based on how great the sonics are on this Mp3, I know I'm going to have to buy the actual SACD.

The sound has much depth, with details of the amazing dense orchestration heard with terrifying clarity...man, I think next to Mahler's works, this Berg (along with Webern's Symphonie) may be among the most ravishing artifacts of sound I ever witnessed.

The more I hear Gatti's M4 the more I like what he does with Mahler's sound textures...it's nice to hear he can bring out the best of Berg's most dense orchestration.

Bravo.

Yes, I have been listening to this on SACD (stereo) via my Stax earspeaker system, and it is extremely good.

Agreed. Gatti seems to get the sometimes staid Dutch players to sound a bit more heated up than usual.

I'm so taken by this work I decided to finally order the score...I can't wait to get a closer look at the orchestraton.
