Sad news: Decca Classics to fold
« on: February 05, 2009, 07:31:26 AM »
Just heard about this on another site and found the story below.  If true, it would be very sad news indeed.

In some other discussions I have seen, Lebrecht is the only one reporting this. It is likely true but not verified...yet.

Here's another article that seems to indicate that it's not as drastic as it first seemed.  Looks like there might be some changes, but I think all will be OK in the long run....

The death of EMI has been announced for several years now. Yet, they come out with tons of new releases every single month. Granted, most of the classical ones are reissues. But they're serving their fair share of genuine new releases as well. According to Lebrecht, everything is dieing. I just wish HIS career would die instead.

Lebrecht seems to love predicting death... aren't classical music, maestros. recordings and now Decca all dead??  ??? ::)

Why does anyone listen to Lebrecht? The only inside information he has is what he makes up.

Ha!   ;D  I enjoyed a good laugh too!

So Dave, does this mean that you will not be spending the time to draft a 2009 April Fools Editorial at Classics Today?

If Decca Classics is folding, why are they spending so much time and money promoting C. Bartolli and Julia Fischer (violin)? This is like the constant, on-going death of EMI business. If anything, there are more EMI new releases and reissues than ever (especially if you count the dvd releases, which are plenty).
