Playing Cosima that way, as a Nazi before there were Nazis, is even sillier than having a beautiful actress (Silvana Mangano) play her in the Visconti film LUDWIG. At least that film really works for me, and I highly recommend it. You can now see the complete version on DVD. Trevor Howard makes a great Wagner--he even looks a lot like him

Oh, I don't know. I believe that "nazi" comes closer than the beauty Silvana Mangano. I say that not only because Cosima wasn't exactly easy on the eyes, but because she was much more rabidly anti-semitic than her husband. It's a wonder that mahler squeaked through at all, and I think that that's the point that K.R. was trying to make with his obvious exaggeration. Silly or not, I certainly found it entertaining.
