That's not what I got, and I measured them off myself. I didn't include the dead space after any movement. Regardless, I wasn't crazy about it. It'll be a 'wait and see' situation for me, regarding any possible recording. I still liked the BRSO one more.

Barry

Here are the correct timings of the Harding/SWRSO M7th:

21'35", 15'52", 9'04", 12'09", 16'54"

Total = 76 min.

My "awesome" was in response to your words, John. I hadn't listened to it yet. We shall see. I wish BR Klassik would issue their Harding M7, but they're probably saving the 7th for Rattle.

Not a fan. This sounds breathless and lacking in depth, compared to Harding's performance of M7 with the BRSO just months ago. A measurement of the timings confirmed my suspicions. They look like this: I -19:25; II - 15:40; III - 8:55 (like Abbado); IV - 12:05; V - 16:15. Why so fast when Harding's two existing Mahler recordings on Harmonia Mundi are nowhere so 'breathless'?

I would buy a CD or download of Harding's M7 from Munich, but not this one - unless they do a studio recording with somewhat more broad tempi (except for the second movement, which seemed fine as it was).

Ozawa's farewell concert in Boston, Mahler Ninth (2002) is a great performance. I watched both his BSO & Saito Kinen performances of the symphony live too. He had a special affinity for the music.

Some people go on and on about Solti/C.S.O., but I like the Ozawa/B.S.O. cycle much more. It's just more musical. For me, the highlights from Ozawa are M1, M3, M7, M8 and M9. I agree that his Saito Kinen M2 is an improvement.

Awesome. Thank you John. Yeah, it seems the 'younger generation' are better attuned to Mahler 7 - none of that nonsense about the 7th being the bastard stepchild of Mahler symphonies. They know that's rubbish.
