I just found the Ludwig/LSO/Everest M9 on LP for a few bucks not too long ago...I shall listen soon.

The sound on the Horenstein M3 LP is so vastly improved over the CD reincarnation...an SACD would be very welcome...hopefully this will happen someday.

Check out the Ludwig M9th. It is really an excellent M9th. The sound is so transparent and juicy that I can't believe it was recorded back in 60's. The original session tapes were made on 35 mm film so no wonder it sounds fabulous. There is also CD version available for sale. One drawback; during the 3rd, final climax in I. there is a noticeable volume drop in one channel until the timpani strokes. When I asked the company what happened, they confirmed there was a dropout in the tapes. I think it exists on both the LP and CD. But otherwise, it's a fabulous recording.

Thats awesome John, thanks for the review...now I can't wait to listen to this.  I also found Neuman's first M9 on LP (with the Leipzic Gwandhaus Orchestra), a mint copy for 5 dollars...looks pretty good.

Neuman's CPO M9 on Exton is a great SACD by the way.

Neumann's first M9th recording you mentioned also sounds great on the latest CD remastering on Berlin label. They did this using their special software. Performance wise, I'd prefer the Ludwig.
