Inbal/FRSO/Denon Resurrection
« on: March 22, 2010, 10:11:41 PM »
Does anyone own this recording?

Believe it or not, for the first time in my life I've listened to this recording (although it was released back in early 80s).

It is superb!

The level of intensity and clarity that Inbal brings to his orchestra is amazing. His interpretation is full of blazing energy and fire, but it is also lyrical whenever called for. Grandiose and quite moving, the Finale is one of the best I've ever heard.

The sonics are very bright and there are some odd balances here and there, but overall the sound is pretty good with plenty of details, clarity, and warmth.

What are your opinions? ???

John,

I have the "Brilliant Classics" pressing of the recordings.

The M8 has a great clarity in the sound and also some great bass, though, the "brightness" that you describe John is very noticeable in all of them. The M2 has too much "breathing" from Inbal, so I'll probably not return to it. A small detail that I very much like in these recordings is the contrabasoon, that is more apparent than usual. Haven't heard his M10 yet (first he made only an M10-Adagio recording and later decided to do Cooke II -- both are included) ... I think I'll listen to one of the symphonies tonight!

I have it in the Brilliant box set.  I really cannot remember a single thing about the M2 though.  My memory tells me that the whole set is quite consistent.  I just listened to the M3 last week -- one of my very favorites.
