That's a very good price, indeed! Does anyone already know if a EU/US release is to be expected?

I ordered it! It's been awhile since I've ordered something from Japan. I hope it won't take too long, after its release date.

I've always wondered that, too. However, I received an email from them last night saying the release would be pushed back a week to the 19th.

...the release would be pushed back a week to the 19th.

And today, I received notice from HMV Japan that it was delayed until October 26.

I received my set in the mail today.  So far, his 4th sounds great! There's a sloppy mistake on the box, though. It says the M3 was done by the Philadelphia Orchestra.

I've heard the 4th and the 7th, so far.  The bass drum is huge in the 7th.  You'll often hear me express a preference for the LP version of certain recordings, but I will say the CD version wins hands down, so far.  And the 7th sounds better than the previous CD incarnation as I recall it.  I can only stay up so late, but I may have to hear a bit of his 3rd and 9th.

coda from last night...

I listened to parts of the 3rd, 5th, and 9th,  but it's been a matter of minutes vs. actual movements.  Despite certain improvements, don't except the remarkable improvements that Sony delivered in their latest Bernstein remastering.  After hearing Bernstein's cycle, I was ready for the same remastering producers to go back and tackle all of my favorite Bernstein and Ormandy gems from the Columbia catalog, hoping the results would be comparable.  Here, I've walked away with the thought, "Well, I guess they did the best they could."  Things are still a little strident, ironic considering it was recorded LATER than Bernstein's.

It's not very specific, but I like what I've heard interpretively. I only wish there would have been as much cowbell at the end of the 7th as bells.

One other quibble: I really wish there was better cover art.  Some of the LP's had some great art and I don't find Levine very photogenic.

A few posts back I wondered wether a EU/US release would be coming up. Just now, I found it on jpc.de: http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/Gustav-Mahler-Symphonien-Nr-1-3-7-910/hnum/4986486

I'm getting this!

And Amazon.com seem to be offering it for $32.99, though it's "temporarily out of stock." I just placed an order with high hopes.

I heard that these recordings have been digitally remastered for this reissue. SO, that's good news.

I regard all of Levine Mahler recordings superb, especially the M5-M7, and M9.

Wait...I've never heard Levine's M4th  :-[ and I don't own the M3rd, so will want to get the set for the two symphonies ;D.

hehe
