Bychkov & Vienna to Play Mahler 6 in California
« on: February 25, 2011, 01:02:31 AM »
Semyon Bychkov and the Vienna Philharmonic will be giving two performances of Mahler 6 in California this month and next:

February 27, 2011 – Zellerbach Hall, Berkley, CA

March 3, 2011 – Segerstrom Concert Hall, Costa Mesa, CA

West coast residents may already know about this, but I'm posting just in case...

I'll be at a table in the lobby of Zellerbach, selling both Bychkov and VPO product. I'll be doing that tonight and Sunday (Mahler 6).

One cool item that we received is a an Australian Eloquence (Decca) disc that has Dohnonyi/VPO doing "Petrushka" (1947 version), coupled to a knock-out performance of Bartok's complete "Miraculous Mandarin". Both performances were recorded in the latter '70s at the Sofiensaal. Anyway, they're performing "Miraculous Mandarin" tonight. It's the one Bartok that they seem to do rather frequently.
