The made-for television movie from the early 80's is now on DVD. The movie implies that violinist Alma Rose (GM's niece) was poisoned by the female Auchswitz guard in charge of the musical group because she was going to be "released" to play around at other death camps for the pleasure of the staffs. Most reports however say she died of disease at Auchswitz.
Alma Rose was the conductor of the "orchestra" and is portrayed in the movie as somewhat of a tyrant, trying to keep the group playing as good as possible in order to stay alive.
What is most sad about her story is that she had already escaped to England with her father but returned to Holland to work when that country was suddenly invaded by the Nazis.
