I hope Colin Davis will get to make more Mahler recordings too.

I LIKE his 1st and 4th with BRSO VERY MUCH.

Davis' First in particular strikes me as perfect a M1st as I can imagine.

For all its faults, I really like the Colin Davis M8. And even though the tempi are generally slow, and you have to deal with an over-the-hill John Vickers, I really like his "DLvdE" with Jesseye Norman - especially "der Abschied".

Ditto here. I have spots for Davis M8th and DLVDE too.

I just have a hunch that he'll make terrific M6th and M9th, dark and brooding with strong base lines.

I would take the 'younger' Colin Davis in M6, and the more 'mature' C. Davis in M9.

Amazon UK has a CD release date of 7 Nov 2011, and MP3 download from 10th Oct.

The sound on the samples is quite good, but unfortunately way too brief to gauge the performance.

Yes, but UNLIKE Bernstein/VPO, Pappano takes 24.5 minutes for the first movement - so that the 'march' isn't rushed - while keeping the finale to a nice and tidy half-hour.
