Young/HPO/Oehms Mahler Resurrection Symphony:
Here is another M2nd symphony I received today.
This is the FIRST recording of this monumental music by a female conductor!
And it is a superb performance/recording.
In short, Young's first go at Mahler is distinguished for its natural flow, smooth transitions without a hint of sacrifice in drive or energy. No doubt they are a result of conductor's careful moderation of dynamics and tempo, but underpinning this success is the powerful, robust German sound that Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra produces for their beloved music director.
My enthusiasm about Stenz's rendition on the same label hasn't cooled down a bit, so I guess I will have to divert some of it to Simone Young.
Meanwhile, I will go out and seek for Young's Bruckner and Wagner!
Gee, we are spoiled with too many good Mahler recordings.
And they keep coming, don't they?
