Obtaining out-of-the-way discs
« on: June 02, 2007, 09:33:43 AM »
This is about obtaining out-of-the-way (and not-so-out............) recordings. i read about all these interesting recordings and wonder (in my inert kind of way) about good places to go.

so,what are good sources to buy from of such recordings?

Can any/many be obtained from the labels themselves?

Are there labels it seems impossible to get hold of?

Is there anywhere that's free where one can discover what is available/in print?

I'm slightly more with-it regarding deleted discs.

For any help,thanks in advance.

On the Bruckner discography site,he includes under the 2nd,a Horenstein performance on World Music Express.

I assume that's an obscure LP label. Can't say i've heard of World Music Express, tho' I'm no expert on labels.

Also,in the Mahler discography online, there are innumerable mouth-watering-soundings performances on 'obscure' labels - hence my questions.

i understand, thank you.

try gemm.com.
arkivmusic.com produces some 'reprints' of major labels...maybe minor labels, too.

It looks like that the Horenstein is Japanese CDR Issue. If that's the case, unless you have resources in Japan or Parnassus Records imports them, you probably won't be able to get it direct since the Japanese pirates don't do mail order on CDR's.

Try e-mailing John Berky to find out the source of the issue.

You might want to look at OperaShare, which can be a good resource for radio rips these days.  See my link in the "Web Resources" sticky thread.
