Anyone know what’s going on with this release? I haven’t seen it anywhere.

This is showing on the iTunes Store (of all places) as being released tomorrow, 2/19. Timings are 20:37, 9:38, 10:50, 5:21, (20:23 + 14:08) = 80:57.

My favorite M2 is the Ozawa / Saito Kinen, so I have no complaints about tempi here. The second movement may be a bit quick at 9:38, but it is supposed to be a moderate andante after all. A nostalgic waltz, sort of. I’ll usually take anything between 10-11 minutes, but that movement is least important to me.

Yes, I generally like the second movement to be on the quicker side of the equation, and the scherzo to run closer to 11 minutes (not too fast). For the first movement, as long as it's done well, I like it anywhere between 20 and 24 minutes. I don't like the slow choral part of the finale to linger too much - about 35 minutes tops for me. Unless the mezzo is really good, I don't even listen to "Urlicht" any more.

I'm sure it'll be quite good, but it's their M6 I'll be waiting for.

I guess I was wrong about it appearing on streaming platforms, but it’s now available for download. I have yet to hear it, but the samples make it sound good. I like what Fischer does with phrasing in the second movement.

It's on Spotify and it sounds great!

Maybe the best Adam Fischer has done in his Mahler cycle.

Found it! Had to do some digging because they listed it as a 2019 release.

Sampling now. This is glorious! Amazing organ presence at the end, and solid tams. Bells aren't quite audible, but they are at the very end. The organ actually seems to drown out the bells, but it doesn't matter much because the moment sounds glorious enough already. And FINALLY a recording where you can clearly hear the col legno strings near the climax of the first movement.

Can't wait to hear the rest later!

After listening to this, I get the feeling that I should search out Adam Fischer conducting other rep, especially his Wagner. He is a fine musician.

Anyway, almost everything in this recording is just about right for me. I do wish the horns, and the entire brass at moments were a little more prominent. The off stage stuff sounded a bit to distant, too. He really does a great job handling how all the themes wind in and out through out the developmental section of the 1st movement. His phrasing at the start of the andante is great, that little bit of separation is nice. Lots of good stuff through out the recording. Just wished for a little bit more power at spots in finale. It's a great sound, just wanted a little bit more, personally.

Perhaps the brothers Fischer are the kings of the Mahler 2!
