Thanks John, this recording sounds excellent. I really like the timings here too; a flowing finale but the final moments are still stretched out as if it were, say, Chailly's monstrous 28-minute finale. Awesome low bell sounds too.

I wish the second movement was given a bit more room to breathe and stomp around. I like when that one is around 16 mins.

I like what Stenz, Salonen, Gielen, and Abbado do in regards to the finale. They keep the finale flowing but still manage to stretch out the end to 5-7 minutes.

Erik,

You are post on. Szell in Cleveland also did the same; in IV. he kept the movement flowing until about a few min. are left, and then he slowed down quite a bit allowing it to end the way it's supposed to like you described. A very effective conducting and I think FWM has done the same thing here.
