Non-Mahler recordings by Kobayashi.
« on: June 01, 2008, 12:35:04 PM »
As I have enjoyed so much the Mahler recordings by Kobayashi (nr 1 and 9)  I would like to ask listers about his non-Mahler recordings.

Which are the good ones ? I am interested in the Bartok, Berlioz and Tchaikovsky discs.  Any opinions ?

best regards,

Oscar.

I believe that he recorded a Tchaikovsky "Manfred" - a work that I really like. If so, I've never heard it.

I have his SACD of the Tchaikovsky 5 with the Czech PO.  It is very good, probably my favourite digital version, if not as powerful as Szell's 1959 version.

I have the Manfrend but don't listen to it yet.
What is fantastic is Smetana's Ma Vlast in DVD with Czech PO, from the opening concert of Prague Spring 2002.
Excellent performance, dramatic and musical, in demonstration sound.
