My guess re. Vanska/MO/BIS Mahler release schedule
« on: November 08, 2022, 05:29:05 PM »
R. von Bahr hasn't gotten back to me, which is unusual for him. My guess is that BIS will want to 'get back on schedule' by releasing M3 first (which is being performed this coming weekend). Then they would go back and release M9 and M8 - both of which should be 'in the can' by now. I can't seem to find if there's going to be a video broadcast of the M3 just yet.

To me it makes no sense for them to release the M3 first before they release the M9 and M8. Unless there is a compelling reason, fans of the Vanska/Mahler cycle will scratch their heads saying: "Why did they release the latest first? Anything wrong with the performances of the 9th and 8th?" I know I would.

I'm just guessing. Releasing the 3rd symphony first, gets them back on to the original schedule of the cycle. The 3rd had been cancelled due to the pandemic - it was supposed to have happened before the 9th. To me, it makes perfect sense to go 'happy' symphony (#3), dark and personal symphony (#9), and then conclude with the 8th. Regardless, I'm only speculating.
